Walking, fishing, golfing, tennis are all available locally. The '7 stanes' mountain bike trails offer routes for those who like a challenge and routes for those who prefer a more leisurely ride. The nearby Rock UK centre offers many activities from gorge walking, abseiling, archery and a 300m zip wire!
Liddesdale is typically known as 'Border Reiver Territory'. Hermitage Castle, 5 miles away, is one of the oldest surviving castles in Scotland, an awesome, eerie ruin, set in a lovely spot, has a history filled with intrigue, murders, trysts, torture and treason.
Newcastleton or 'Copshaw Holm' as it is know locally, hosts a traditional music festival every year, as well as the 'Holm Show', a small traditional agricultural show. The village also recently welcomed the '12 & 24 hours of Exposure', (the U.K solo mountain bike championships) and a section of the 'Kielder 100', another big mountain bike event.
